I've become slightly obsessed with the "Recent Visitors" map in the sidebar of this blog. I can look at where my readers are, and I have to say, if it's accurate, I'm really pleasantly surprised at how many of you there are.

It also leads me to think silly things like "It would be cool to have a reader in Aberdeen....what can I do to up my readership in the north of Scotland."

I did notice that someone is reading from Leicester, England. If you are that person, could you leave a comment or something? My dad's from Leicestershire, you see, and it's fascinating to me that I've got a reader there!

So, anyway, back to your regularly scheduled Saturday...

I had a look at it too. I know it's silly but I think it's fascinating! It's quite precise too (although it says I'm from Juvignac, which is not exactly true - well, almost, it's just that I live within Montpellier, on the south west side, so that's near)

As another Feedjit addict (thanks to Liza getting me hooked), it's more illuminating than you might now: If you select the satellite view instead of map and keep zooming in, which is maddening because it doesn't recenter each time and you have to go looking for your target -- but, if you are patient enough, you can actually see the very house via Google earth where your blog visitor's computer is located. As Liza put it, you can almost peek in the window at them.

Whoa, Maggie, that actually kind of freaks me out.....

Yup. Why privacy protection under the Constitution is so important. The NSA database is a nightmare waiting to happen.

I wouldn't worry too much - as I said, in my case the target isn't that precise (I checked with the satellite map and I'm afraid I don't live in a giant house with a pool ;))

But I don't know how the targets are calculated, it might be more precise according to where you live.

Yeah, upon closer examination, it does say that my mom lives about 3 blocks from where her house actually is.

And my mom's real house is easy to spot on Google earth (solar panels)...
